RE: heartland 5ers

We have lived full time in our 2008 3400rl Bighorn for over a year and would buy a Heartland again. Minor problems and great warranty service! (We did change the tires out to Michelin xps ribs)

RE: How much did you pay?

How much did you pay for your 5th wheel compared to the MSRP? I keep seeing deals on the internet that make me think I should expect to pay 65-70% of retail. Here is an example.
Here
By getting bids from the different internet dealers we got ours for 36.5% off the msrp. Pretty typical.

RE: house? sell it or keep it.

We sold our house and went full time. It was an easy decision as it had stairs and it was not a house to grow old in,(I got sick for a while and couldn't walk up the stairs). Next house, someday, will be a single level.

RE: Jupiter and Venus

This should have been posted in some Astrology forum somewhere. The moderator I don't think is over zealous, he's doing his job keeping non related posts off these forums. Some people just think anything can be posted here but in all reality that is not the case. Hats off to the moderator, it's a nasty, time-consuming job.
It's Astronomy, not astrology. If you can't say something nice, like thanks, then don't post a response.

RE: Jupiter and Venus

I know this will be moved by some over zealous moderator, but starting tonight for those of you that have clear skies, through Monday, Jupiter and Venus and the crescent moon will be visible in the southern skies. One gal I know said they looked like landing lights on the biggest airplane ever. The two planets can be seen at various times through the future years but with the moon is very rare. The next time you will see the three together will be in 2052. So either look for them in the next few nights or plan on sticking around for the next time. Clear shies everyone.
Thanks for the post. I wonder if you have been a member of the Astronomy League as many of us sign off with "Clear skies".
For those interested the way to tell a planet from a star is that stars twinkle and planets don't.

RE: Tire Spacing

HERE is a tire size calculator. You will see the difference in sizes. Good luck.
This calculator may work for some tires but not the Michelins. According to the chart my tires is almost three inches bigger in diameter, which is way wrong. Thie actual loss in gap was about half an inch/ ten millimeters.

RE: Tire Spacing

The Michelins are actually about 5 mm taller per tire, so for two tires the spacing is reduced by 1 cm, about the width of your little fingernail. I changed out my chinese tires for Michelin ribs on our Bighorn 3400rl, trail air suspension and the resulting spacing is 2 inches. No problems and no problems have ever been listed on the Heartland forum so does Artic Fox have a forum where you can ask the question?

RE: Wyoming residency

We are fulltimers and currently,(still,) Wyoming residents. No income tax, but the taxes for our truck and fiver license are expensive, compared to South Dakota.
We have lived there for thirty years, so we are loth to give up the residency, but if I were from somewhere else I would go with South Dakota,(due to the ease of establishing residency and the cheaper license plates)

We are currently in Waco and are interested in Camping at Palemetto State Park in Texas. The rv park reviews website has a posting that big rigs may have difficulty. As we are 55 feet long connected and our fifth wheel is 37 feet. we are wondering if anyone has camped there with a big rig and has adivce. Thanks.

RE: Success or failure: help from the manufacturer

We actually own a Heartland product, and the service has been excellant! We had a problem in the Black Hills and they gave us multiple choices for where to fix it.
Had a part break in the Red Desert of Wyoming and they shipped us the part at once.

RE: Driving in the mountains!

Wow there are some brave people posting. I would never go 60-70 down the passes in Wyoming. You won't reach the bottom of the pass, just some ravine.
The only place to be concerned on I80 is going down into Salt Lake City.
Before you start down the pass most have signs that say to check your brakes and use Low gear. Hmmmmmm......, I wonder if the signs were put there for a reason. If you are braking often or riding your brakes, downshift.
So don't be afraid of the mountains just downshift and slowly and safely reach the bottom of the passes. If a bunch of people are behind you pull over and let them pass.

RE: Did you cry when your realized you were a fulltimer??

We were so happy to be finally starting on the road that closing was a relief. Since then we have traveled through 19 states and spent more time with friends and family than we ever did before.
When we miss someone we use the cell phone and call, or email them.

RE: Which generator and where to put it?

We have our yamaha 3000 se boost in the back of the pickup. It works great and is quiet but it's so heavy. I use a ramp to load and unload it.
If I had it to do over again I would buy the two 2000's and the parallel kit.
I would not buy the chinese generator as yanmaha and honda are the best. There is no comparison to any other generators when it comes to noise levels.

RE: Need clothes washer dryer for full time?

We were part time in our old rig for five years without a washer dryer. One have been full time in this motorhome with a combo washer dryer. I prefer having the combo than having none. We don't have room for a stackable unit. If you boondock or dry camp a lot then you won't get much use out of an onboard washer/dryer. If you are normally in a full hookup situation, then you are more likely to want one in the rig.
Also if you are normally in one place for weeks or months at a time, it would be easier to get comfortable with using the same laundromat. If you move every week, then it gets to be a pain finding a decent laundromat.
So to sum it up for me, it is like most things in an RV, it depends on how you camp.
We agree as we boondock often and the washer dryer space is used for extra equiptment, backpacks, etc.
About every two weeks we, yes both of us, go to the laundry and do it together, takes about an hour and we are done.
For the record, this is our second year of fulltiming.

RE: Sundance 2800 RLS

That model is similar to the 2900MK that we have. We love it and it meets our needs to a "T". 2008Wildcat is correct, it isn't a Hithhiker or Cameo. They are "High End" and MUCH more pricey. That being said, the Heartland products are great weekenders, have a terrific forum with factory participation, and great factory support. Lay out your requirements and go with what meets your needs with price being one of the big factors. The price on the 2800RLS on Ebay is REAL GOOD (IMHO).
Yup, a comparable Heartland product is the Bighorn.

RE: Which is easier to Park? 5th wheel or travel trailer??

Having had both, I don't think there is a lot of difference, if you can back one you can back the other, providing that youre use to using the mirrors when backing.

RE: Snow load

Don't know where you are at but I would store it where the snow is less. If your out west there should be a desert nearby that doesn't get much snow.

Interstate Park in Minnesota

WE are going to St Paul next week and our daughter recommended Interstate Park.
Their website says a maxinmum length of 45 feet from the tip of the tow vehicle to the back of the fifth wheel. We are 55 feet long with or 37 foot fiver hooked up to our chevy truck.
Is the 45 feet maximum for real? We have been in lots of parks where the stated length limits were a lot smaller than then what you could actually park in the spot.
Thanks for any responses.
